Nocturne Ring: layered contour on a blue ground
Nocturne Ring: layered contour on a blue ground

A ring developed from Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturne in C-sharp minor, translating musical lines into a small sculptural object.

Nocturne Ring continues the exploration of music as form. The musical lines of Chopin’s Nocturne in C-sharp minor are brought into a circular composition, giving a passage of music a physical presence.

Chopin’s Nocturne becomes a layered circular form. Its changing profile and open centre let the object be read from more than one direction, while light makes the intervals between its strands visible. Two original photographs show these complementary views of the made ring.

Context & credits

Jewellery design and musical interpretation: Denislav Sokolov (Deniz Atasoy). Musical source: Frédéric Chopin, Nocturne in C-sharp minor, Op. posthumous.

Form follows music.
As you move through the space, corridor becomes feminine, you become the masculine.
Invisible light is hidden in d-archness that ego does not seek.
